What is epoxy resin?
Epoxy resin is a polymer compound containing epoxy groups, usually polymerized by bisphenol A or bisphenol F and epichlorohydrin under the action of a catalyst. It is a thermosetting resin that needs to react with a curing agent (such as amines adn acid anhydrides) to form a solid material with high strength, corrosion resistance, heat resistance, and excellent insulation properties.
Characteristics of Epoxy Resin
1. Excellent Bonding Properties
Strong adhesion to a variety of materials such as metal, glass, ceramics, wood, concrete, plastic, etc.
2. Chemical Corrosion Resistance
Can resist corrosion from chemicals such as acids, alkalis, solvents and oils.
3. Good Mechanical Strength
High hardness and good toughness after curing, able to withstand greater pressure adn impact.
4. Excellent Electrical Insulation
Widely used in packaging of electronic components and electrical insulation coatings.
5. Thermosetting Stability
Will not melt when heated, with high temperature resistance.
6. Low Shrinkage
Small volume change during curing to ensure stable product size.
Market Prospects of Epoxy Resin
Epoxy resin is in great demand in the fields of new energy (wind turbine blades), aerospace, electronic packaging, building reinforcement, environmentally friendly coatings, etc. due to its high strength, corrosion resistance and excellent insulation performance. With the strengthening of environmental protection regulations, environmentally friendly products such as water-based epoxy resin and solvent-free epoxy resin will become the market development trend.
